Srinagar: The massive frisking and checking of vehicles has led to massive traffic snarls on Srinagar-Muzaffarabad highway near Parimpora By-pass, reports said on Friday.
They said that Police have deployed forces at Parimpora by-pass, one of the entry points to Srinagar City from northern parts of Kashmir who have been conducting frisking and checking of vehicles since past few days.
Reports said, “The forces on deployment stop the vehicles and start checking. They ask questions and frisk the male passengers. They also seek identity cards.”
A passenger who was subjected to frisking termed it as reminiscent of 90s when frisking and identity parades were common.
The checking of vehicles has resulted in long traffic queues which in-turn has created traffic jams on the highway. The passengers have termed the checking as “humiliating”.
Police have termed it a routine check up. SDPO Parimpora, Furqan Qadir told Kashmir Life over phone that such exercises are carried out in routine to ensure safety of citizens and to keep city safe and free from criminals and militants.
