Early closure of petrol pumps creates inconvenience to commuters

SRINAGAR: The Srinagar city has no petrol pumps that can provide day and night services. Almost all the petrol pumps that used to provide day and night services in the city have closed down their services during the night. Commuters say all the petrol pumps in the Srinagar city close down their business at around 9 in the evening while authorities do not bother to initiate action against these petrol station owners.

“We were short of fuel a few days back when we were on way to hospital to get our grandmother admitted there. We didn’t find a single petrol pump open as a result we hired an auto richshaw who ferried the patient to the SMHS hospital,” said Muhammad Yasin of Natipora. He added that after 9 in the evening all the petrol pumps located at different locations of the city including Solina, Batamaloo, Sonwar, MA Road, Dalgate close their business.

Another commuter said that it is the responsibility of the CAPD Department but the officials are in slumber and they never bother to inspect these fuel stations. The most suffered due to closure of pumps during evening time are the Sumo Drivers who fail to ply on North and South Kashmir roads.

Deputy Director Supplies Muhammad Aslam said that the department will issue a formal circular in this regard. “We will ensure that petrol pumps remain open till late hours and for this purpose we will issue a circular. Action will be initiated against the violators,” he said. (CNS)
