In solidarity with Kashmir Reader, president Kashmir Editors Guild (KEG) Fayaz Ahmad Kaloo led all the KEG members to the office of the newspaper that is resuming publication after nearly three months. They interacted with the newspaper staff and reassured them that Kashmir media corps is indivisible and a monolith that will fight all challenges together, a statement of the guild issued here reads.

“The curbs on media are nothing new but every time there was a crisis, the media has taken it head on and will continue to do so,” Fayaz Ahmad Kaloo told the staff of Kashmir Reader. “We continue to uphold the highest degree of professionalism and objectivity.” He said the crisis makes journalists wiser and helps them understand the unpredictability of Kashmir better. “Our strength comes from the challenges we face on day to day basis but it costs,” he said.

The editors assured the newspaper that KEG has left no stone un-turned in ensuring the Reader resumes its publication. They were pained to see the newspaper staff dusting the desks that had remained unused and forbidden since October 2, 2016, when the government imposed ban on the newspaper. Reporters and other staffers were smiling after a long time, the desk editors of the newspaper told visiting editors. The ban on the newspaper was lifted and it is resuming its publication tonight.

In their interaction with the newspaper staff, the president said the Guild is tackling various issues confronting the media as a fraternity and as a sector in a gradual process, which, in fact, has already started.
