Condemning the arrest of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat leader, Ab Gani Bhat father of acting district president, Kupwara, Farooq Ahmad Bhat, chairperson Hurriyat Conference (g), Syed Ali Geelani Thursday said that being active political worker, Ab Gani Bhat was on the forefront of the ongoing uprising for the last 5 months, leading the peaceful and non-violent demonstrations throughout parts of southern Kashmir.
“But police and local administration being the local tools in the hands of Indian brutality have declared him as wanted offender, his house ransacked and relatives put behind bars. When these acts of repression failed to deter him from the freedom struggle, these stooges, sealed his band saw, ransacked his residential house, looted ornaments and arrested his elderly brother and son-in- law,” Geelani said in a statement issued here.
The octogenarian leader said that these armed “cowards” declared him proclaimed offender but it were the pro- freedom people that assisted and helped him through all this “horrendous tactics” adopted by people in uniform.
“Police in order to cow down his sprits raided his relatives, ransacked their properties and most of his relatives were arrested but all these repressive measures couldn’t cow down his passion and he continued to lead peaceful processions in south Kashmir.”
The Hurriyat patriarch condemned night raids on incarcerated and elderly Gh Mohiuddin Pundit Lala and said that he is presently languishing in Kot Balwal jail and police is still chasing his three sons including Shakeel Ahmad, Meraj u Din and Irshad Ahmad. They, to evade detention have gone for hiding, leaving their ailing mother and sisters to face tough times.
Condemning police high handedness, Geelani said that these arbitrary measures are the main cause of growing number of human rights violations and while ridiculing the rulers for their rhetoric for “Battle of Ideas” said that they while ignoring human values are parroting about their slogan of so-called development and it is just to befoul media and international opinion.
Geelani also expressed his deep concern over the growing incidences of “violation of human rights” by police and forces and said that that these men in uniform are suffering from power of arrogance and forget that youth are sacrificing their lives for the future of whole nation.
Haling the freedom passion of people, Geelani said that arbitrary and suppressive measures won’t deter them from pursuing the cherished goal.
