Reports of intense clashes are pouring in from different parts of the valley including, Nowhatta in Srinagar; Sopore in Baramulla district; and Pulwama.
Reports said that clashes erupted between youths and forces in Nowhatta area of downtown Srinagar after congregational Friday prayers.
Reports said that soon after the mandatory Friday prayers culminated, people staged protest at Jamia Masjid Nowhatta against the granting of domicile certificates to the west Pakistan refugees.
They said police and paramilitary forces, deployed in strength there tried to disperse the protesting youth.
However, youths pelted stones and bricks on the forces triggering intense clashes.
Clashes were going when the last reports came in.
Meanwhile, reports from Pulwama said that Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) Chief Yasin Malik has suffered injuries after he attempted to lead a protest rally against the issuance of identity certificates to West Pakistan refugees in Pulwama town after Friday prayers.
Witnesses said that Malik, who had reached Pulwama town early morning today, came out of the Jamia Masjid after congregational Friday prayers to lead the protest rally.
Police personnel deployed outside the mosque pounced on him as soon as he came out.
Police fired teargas shells to disperse the protesters, triggering intense clashes.
A spokesperson of JKLF said that Malik suffered injuries. He said that police went berserk on the civilians who were protesting along with Malik.
“The clothes of Malik were ripped apart by police personnel,” he said, “Malik sb has suffered injuries.”
Similar reports of intense clashes were also reported from Sopore.
Kashmir Life Sopore reporter said that intense clashes are going on in main chowk near Jamia Masjid Sopore.
He said that as soon as the Friday prayers ended, people came out on roads chanting pro-freedom slogans and carrying banners. They were demanding that issuance of domicile certificates to WPRs be revoked immediately.
Pertinently, resistance leadership had called for valley-wide protests on Friday against issuing domicile certificates to West Pakistan refugees.
