In order to bid farewell to Director General of Police, K Rajendra Kumar, a colourful function was organised at Police Headquarters (PHQ), Gulshan Ground here last evening.
On the occasion Chief Secretary J&K, B R Sharma presented a memento to K Rajendra Kumar on behalf of all ranks of JKP.
ADGP (Headquarters), VK Singh, speaking on the occasion highlighted the professional achievements of Rajendra during his service. He described him as a visionary Police Chief, who will be remembered for his leadership qualities and innovative measures.
Rajendra thanked the officers present on the occasion from Police, Civil Administration, Army and para-military forces for their cooperation in delivering the services for betterment of the state and nation.
Rubby Sharma and Bharti Vaid presented a memento to K Vijaya Rajendra on behalf of Police Wives Welfare Association.
The function was attended by CVC, Kuldeep Khoda, Advocate General J&K, Jehangir Iqbal Ganai, FC Agriculture Production Deptt: Pramod Kumar Jain, Lt. Gen. Ashok Ambre, designate DGP, Dr. SP Vaid, Principal Secretary Home, R K Goyal, Addl. DG CRPF, SN. Srivastava, FC Revenue, Lokesh Dutt Jha, C/S to Finance Deptt:, Naveen Kumar Choudharty, VC CU, Jammu, Prof. Ashok Aima, ADGsP, Dilbag Singh and AK Choudhary beside other police and civil officers.
Meanwhile, Dr Shesh Paul Vaid, took over as Director General of Police (DGP), Jammu and Kashmir. He succeeded K Rajendra Kumar, who superannuated this afternoon.
Dr Vaid, a 1986 batch IPS officer, was posted as Special DGP (Coordination/Law & Order) at Police Headquarters (PHQ). He has also served the State in various capacities including ASP Hqrs and SP Budgam, SP CID Cell New Delhi, SP City Jammu, AIG Trainings, SSP Udhampur, AIG (Personnel), SP Crime & Railways Jammu, ADIG Baramulla, Jammu, DIG Srinagar, Crime/Railways, (Administration) PHQ, IGP Modernization PHQ, Jammu Zone, Crime & Railways, Traffic, ADGP Headquarters and DG Prisons.
After assuming the charge, Dr Vaid interacted with the senior officers at PHQ and deliberated on his priorities as DGP. He said that his focus would be to strengthen the professional policing and provide better service to the public. He asked to fix priorities on different fronts of policing and focus for getting desired results.
Dr Vaid said that latest techniques in the field of investigation are necessary to strengthen our policing and for this purpose police training institutions across the State would be upgraded to teach the latest methods of investigation. In order to enhance the professional capabilities of the force we have to focus on the latest technologies and give a special thrust to upgrade all components of the Organization, he added.
DGP stressed for collective efforts to enhance coordination among all wings of the Organization and other security agencies. “Preventive measures and peoples cooperation would help to deliver in a better way. People of the State have lot of expectations from JKP and it is our prime duty to take cognizance of their complaints and ensure quick disposal”, he added.
Maintenance of law and order and security of the people is our prime duty to ensure congenial atmosphere for all developmental activities in the State. Police public cooperation at grass root level is imperative to achieve our goal and effective measures would be adopted to strengthen our relations with the common people.
Dr Vaid congratulated the people of the State, all ranks of JKP, their families especially the families of police martyrs on the occasion of New Year. He wished a peaceful and prosperous future of the State.
