After its publication was banned on October 2, 2016, Kashmir Reader the daily newspaper will start publishing from tomorrow, Tuesday.

Kashmir Editors Guild, the elite body of Kashmir based journalists, Tuesday met CM Mehbooba Mufti at her residence.

CM informed the members that the ban on the newspaper has been removed. “I am looking forward to read the newspaper ‘Kashmir Reader’ tomorrow morning,” she said.

On Sunday, media reports had said that the Jammu and Kashmir government has decided to revoke ban on daily Kashmir Reader and allow it to resume publication after shutting it down for three months.

The banned Kashmir Reader hit Kashmir markets in May 2013, however, on Oct 2, five cops walked up to its Batamaloo office and handed over an order from District Magistrate Srinagar directing its printer and publisher to cease its publication with immediate effect.

The government order read that the “content published by the Kashmir Reader can incite violence”. The charge rejected by its editor. The government has not cited any particular evidence for imposing the ban on its publication.

KEG had termed the ban on Kashmir Reader as “vague and unclear about the charges for which such a harsh step has been taken”.

Global Journalist bodies and watch dog Amnesty International had termed the ban on the newspaper “infringement of freedom of expression”.
