The government mulls introducing Consumer Protection Laws in higher education to create awareness among the students regarding the consumer rights.
This was stated by the Minister for Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Chowdhary Zulfkar Ali while speaking at a function organized by the Department of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs and Legal Metrology and in connection with National Consumer Day in Jammu.
To protect the consumer rights in the state, Zulfikar said the government has already established State Consumer Protection Council (SCPC) with its subordinate offices at district level. He called for organizing awareness camps for educating people about their rights as consumers.
Zulfkar asked the enforcement wing of the Department to accelerate their movement to check adulteration and over-charging.
A number of students from Women’s College Gandhi Nagar spoke on the issue of Consumer Rights and a skit was also presented by the Nav Durga Kala Manch on the occasion.
