SRINAGAR: Police have arrested timber smugglers, drug peddlers, and gamblers during routine policing across Kashmir, a spokesman of the police said.
Srinagar police arrested a drug peddler during a Naka checking and recovered 1500 bottles of codeine phosphate in Qamarwari.
A police party of Police Post Qamarwari intercepted a Santro car bearing registration number JK04B-2299 driven by Showkat Khan son of Abdul Aziz Khan resident of Nowgam during a Naka checking in its jurisdiction. On checking 1500 bottles of codeine phosphate was recovered from the vehicle.
A case FIR number 198/2017 under section 8/22 NDPS Act was registered and investigation was taken up.
In Baramulla, police arrested six gamblers and recovered stake money of Rs 25,500 from the gambling spot in Sheeri area of Baramulla.
Acting on a specific information, a police party of Police Station Sheeri raided a gambling spot in Hajibal area of its jurisdiction and arrested six gamblers who were identified as Abdul Ahad Tantary resident of Kanthbagh, Ghulam Nabi Gojri resident of Azad-Gunj, Mohammad Sikander Malla resident of Rohama Rafiabad, Javaid Ahmad Parra resident of Stadium Colony Baramulla, Showkat Ahmad Ganie resident of Garkote Uri and Reyaz Ahmad Sofi resident of Azad-Gunj. Stake money of rupees 25,500 was recovered from the gambling spot.
A case FIR number 33/2017 under section 13 Gambling Act was registered and investigation was taken up.
In Ganderbal, police arrested a bootlegger and recovered illicit liquor from his possession.
Acting on an information, a police party of Police Station Gund, Ganderbal arrested a bootlegger identified as Mukash Sharma son of Dev Raj resident of Paranal Kathua, Jammu while selling illicit liquor at Gagangeer area. 10 bottles 750 ml each and 48 tins of illicit liquor were recovered from his possession.
A case FIR number 22/2017 under section 48 Excise Act was registered against him and investigation was taken up.
In the same district, the spokesman said, police seized illicit timber during night patrolling in Tangchiter area of Kangan.
During night patrolling, a police party of Police Station Kangan intercepted a Maruti car without number plates in Tangchiter area of their jurisdiction. Taking advantage of the darkness the driver fled from the spot leaving behind his car. While checking the car, 25 pieces of timber planks were recovered from the vehicle.
Ganderbal police seized the vehicle as well as the timber and registered a case in this regard. The investigation of the case is going on.
