The four were deploying money at exorbitant rates of interest and then cheating people by asking them to return huge sums which were disproportionate to the amounts borrowed.

The victim’s (name withheld) family in a complaint to police has alleged that a group of people resorting to usury forced their loved one to commit suicide.

“Six money lenders barged into our house and demanded huge sums of interest from the victim on the money he had borrowed from them,” the family told police and even handed over a suicide note to them in which the victim who hails from Buran Pattan has mentioned the names of all the six accused.

SSP Baramulla Mir Imtiyaz Hussain said strict action will be taken under law. “During a night raid we have arrested four accused while two are absconding. We have in fact sought permission from District Magistrate to exhume the body of the victim. Once we get permission, body will be exhumed to take the case to its logical conclusion,” Mir said adding that a case under section 306, 34 RPC stands registered at Police Station Pattan in this regard.

SSP Baramulla identified the arrested accused as Naba Ganai of Ganjipora Buran, Nazir Sofi, Rouf Bhat and Mohda Bhat all residents of Buran Pattan.
