The residents of Bhaderwah on Wednesday organised a massive protest over the shortage of doctors in Sub-District hospital and accused the state government of adopting “discriminatory policy” towards the region.

The protesters came out on roads near Sari Bazaar and old bus stand Bhaderwah and raised slogans against the PDP-BJP government. They also accused Health Minister Bali Bhagat, Director Health Jammu and CMO Doda of discriminating against residents of the area. “There is an acute shortage of doctors in the hospital,” Abdul Hafeez Khateeb President Bhaderwah Development Forum said.

“A large number of patients visit the hospital and leave the hospital premises hopeless as there are no doctors to take care of them. The poor have been facing serious problems for the past many years due to absence of various specialists including a Gynaecologist in the hospital,” said Tanveer Ahmed, a retired DySP.

“We have a shortfall of about 70 per cent staff, including a radiologist. The hospital has only six MBBS doctors out of the total 22 sanctioned posts,” he added and demanded immediate filling of all vacant posts.”

When contacted, BMO Bhaderwah Dr Yudvir Singh Kotwal confirmed the shortage of specialists in the hospital and said he has written a letter to Director Health Jammu for filling of all vacant posts.
