National Conference senior leadership wants Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to pick one constitunecy from Ganderbal, Sonawar or Hazratbal for the assembly elections.
Local news gatherrer KNS said Omar’s nomination has become the major cause for delay in the issuance of the final list of the candidates of National Conference for the upcoming state elections. The agency said a meeting was held with the senior leadership including party general secretary Ali Mohammad Sagar, Nasir Aslam Wani, and party’s working president Omar himself besides many others.
The party has reportedly asked Omar to chose his turf either from Ganderbal, or from Sonawar or Hazratbal. Interestingly, these constituencies earlier served as NC bastion during the 2008 elections and the NC candidates including Dr Farooq, Dr Kamal and Omar Abdullah won the seats with good margin in the previously held state elections. There is a possibility of Omar contested from two segments.
Meanwhile, reports have maintained that the leadership has finalized its mandate for Zadibal wherein name of sitting MLA and Srinagar district president Peer Afaq Ahmad is making rounds. Earlier, the delay in the inclusion of Zadibal in the 3rd list was due to the demand of some NC leaders of issuing ticket to Tanver Sadiq. Reports later informed that Afaq got the backing of party president Dr Farooq and his name for Zadibal constituency has been finalized.
Speculations within the National Conference also galore that Tangmarag has become the bone of contention during the issuance of the mandate from that turf as former bureaucrat and NC leader Showkat Ahmad Mir has been seriously pursuing his case of issuing mandate in his favor. Mir has earlier stated that he was promised mandate from Tangmarg the day he entered in national conference. Several other party activists are demanding that the mandate from Tangmarg should be given to Dr Shiekh Mustafa Kamal. When contacted, Kamal maintained that he will abide by the decision of his party and wherever from he will be asked to contest, he will.
