Peripheral Hospital Performed Better As Tertiary Care Failed

As floods immobilized Kashmir’s all the major hospitals, the peripheral health care kept the show going on. Perhaps for the first time the hospitals in the periphery admitted patients in large numbers, conduct surgeries and avoided referring them to Srinagar.

Details revealed by the government on Monday said between September 04 and September 20, as many as 577595 patients reported to the OPDs in Kashmir’s all District hospitals. Of them, 34577 patients were admitted for treatment. During the same period 1435 major surgeries were conducted besides 103160 lab tests.

An official spokesman said 2297 normal deliveries and 1260 cesarean sections were also conducted. Against the cumulative bed strength of 1140 in all these hospitals, 1105 beds were either utilised or were functional.

Besides, 145 medical camps were set up, including 62 in Srinagar city and essential medicine were provided in most of the areas.
