’58 mobile health units set up, all major hospitals de-watered in Sgr, vaccination starts’

KL Report

SRINAGAR

State health authorities Saturday informed that health services in Kashmir are resuming back after the recent floods and unprecedented water logging in valley, particularly Srinagar city.

The Department of Health & Medical Education has set up 58 mobile health clinics in the Srinagar city even as water has been drained out from the G B Pant Hospital, L D Hospital and SMHS Hospital where it had risen to unprecedented levels. Clean up operations at the hospitals have started and once electricity and water connectivity is restored, these hospitals would be ready for routine work.

Also four mobile hospitals have been pressed into service to reach out to people in need.

Meanwhile, the Bone & Joint Hospital is already functional for the last one week where one block has been converted into a gynae and obstetrics unit which is serving the patient needs. The Maternity Hospital, Sanat Nagar is already working and doctors there are working round the clock.

Reports reaching from districts say that all District Hospitals are running normally and catering to the patient rush from the rural areas.

Minister for Health & Medical Education, Mr. Taj Mohi ud Din, who is personally monitoring the resumption of health services in the Valley, today directed the Department to undertake anti measles vaccination in the flood hit areas on war footing from today.

The Minister who is in constant touch with the Health authorities in Delhi, despite severe communication breakdown in the Valley, said that at present six lakh anti measles vaccines are ready and more are on their way to Srinagar. He directed the health authorities to push in more and more vaccination teams in the camps where people from flood affected areas have been kept.

Meanwhile, the SMHS Hospital has suffered losses of around Rs. 100 crore to its machinery and diagnostic equipment due to water logging and floods. Mr. Taj last evening alongwith a team of officers of Health and Medical Education Department inspected the site and the extent of damage done to the diagnostic equipments.
