People Cautioned to Check with Local PDD Officials Before Switching on Appliances

KL Report

SRINAGAR

Power has been restored to majority of areas in the State and efforts are on to restore it in the so far inundated areas as soon as water recedes there, said a government statement on Friday.

According to Principal Secretary, PDD, A.K Mehta, electricity consumption in both the provinces has almost reached the normal level and more and more areas are getting power supply. He appreciated the promptness with which power was restored by the field staff in the affected areas.

Mehta said barring Poonch, where 65% areas are receiving electricity, in all other Districts of Jammu Division electricity supply has almost been restored entirely. He said work is on to restore the damaged infrastructure in Poonch District to ensure 100% supply at the earliest.

In the valley, Mehta said, repair and restoration of damaged electricity infrastructure is taking place on war footing, even as over 70% electricity supply has been restored in Srinagar city. He said as far the inundated areas are concerned, as soon as water recedes from these areas and they become safe to receive electricity, they would be connected with the electricity grid. He said in District Shopian, towers and other infrastructure had been extensively damaged due to which, most of the villages were left without electricity. He said, the field staff is working hard to repair and restore the infrastructure and more and more areas will be receiving electricity as soon as repair work is completed.

Mehta cautioned people in flood affected areas to check with their local lineman or any other PDD official for safety measures before switching on any electric supply or appliance.
