Bus Falls into Overflowing River in Rajouri, 32 Die, Toll Reaches 44

At least 32 people are feared dead when a bus carrying members of a marriage party fell into an overflowing river in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday. The death toll has gone up to 44 since the rains and flash floods started in J&K.


12 people died in rain related incidents over the past few days.


Eye-witnesses said there were almost 50 people travelling in the bus.


Among them six have swam to safety, they said.


Official sources said 32 people are feared and the rescue operation was on.


Police said the bus went out of the driver’s control and plunged into the river near Noushera town of Rajouri district.


A message posted on Twitter by Home Minister Rajnath Singh’s office said National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams have been dispatched to the site to help with search and rescue operation.


The state is on flood alert following incessant rains.
