Tension gripped the South town of Shopian, as the news about the Chief Ministers’ visit spread and angry youth came on roads to protest on Tuesday.
Reports said that announcements were made from loud speakers of the mosques and shopkeepers were asked to pull down their shutters against the CMs visit.
Sources said that most of the shops remained closed for the day and youth were seen searching vehicles and asking for NC workers. “They even pelted stones on some of them,” local sources told Kashmir Life.
They added that the Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah was scheduled to visit Ram Nagri, Reshi Nagri area of the district.
Sources said that the Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah used alternative route to reach Ram Nagri and addressed people there.
Pertinently, Peoples Democratic Party patron, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed had to face public wrath in the town when he led an election rally some days back. The BJP rally was also stoned by angry youth.
Apple town of South Kashmir, Shopian is a volatile area and is known for its anti-establishment stance.
