SRINAGAR
Unprecedented security measures have been put in place ahead of the election on Srinagar Lok Sabha seat. The election is scheduled on April 30, for which campaigning is to end Monday evening.
Searching of vehicles and frisking of the passengers has been intensified in and around Srinagar city. “Every possible step is being taken to maintain law and order,” a police official told Kashmir Life.
“The monitoring of the city has also been increased through CCTVs and police in civvies’,” sources said.
They added that the security arrangements have been increased manifold after the twin ‘blasts’ in Khanyaar and Magam a day earlier. Private and public vehicles are checked and screened thoroughly at various check points and special nakas.
Meanwhile police have arrested dozens of pro-freedom activists in the downtown area, Budgam and Ganderbal districts.
The Srinagar Lok Sabha constituency comprised of Srinagar, Ganderbal and Budgam districts is scheduled to go for polling on April 30 to choose between NCs Dr Farooq Abdullah and PDPs Tariq Hamid Karra.
Raja Muzaffar Bhat, of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Rashid Rahil of Awami Ittihad Party (AIP) are also among the 14 candidates contesting from the Srinagar Lok Sabha constituency, but the real contest is totally bilateral between PDP and NC.
Srinagar Lok Sabha seat is comprised of 1106729 electors and 1483 polling stations have been set up in the constituency.
