Employees on election duty in Kishtwar protest

The government employees in Kishtwar district who had been sent on election duty on April 17 to remote areas of Dachan, Marwah and other places have been protesting against the district administration for the last few days.

Sources told KNS that the employees were airlifted to Dachan, Marwah and other remote areas ahead of the polling. “However, on return they were asked to trek the hilly terrain which they initially refused. When they protested against the decision police used force to quell them and they had no option but to go back by foot which is around two days journey,” they said. After reaching district headquarters Kishtwar, the employees protested

against the ‘negligence’ of the authorities. An agitated employee told KNS over phone that government ditched them and left them at the mercy of nature in hilly terrain in inclement weather conditions. “When government airlifted us in choppers for poll duty why couldn’t

they bring us back in the same choppers,” he asked. The employees have expressed resentment over this ‘callous’ attitude of the authorities and urged chief electoral officer to look into the issue. “We appeal to CEO Umang Narula to personally probe the matter and take appropriate action against the erring officers,” they demanded.
