Protesters attacked a Kashmir University Ambassador car from all the sides and injured its driver critically on Tuesday.
The town was tense after the news about the Chief Ministers visit spread in the area.
Sources said that amidst tension, a Kashmir University Ambassador car No. JK01 M 7065 came from the Degree College Shopian road and as it reached Bonebazar, Chowk of the town it came under heavy stone pelting.
They added that driver of the vehicle, Mohammad Ashraf son of Abdul Rahman a resident of Bemina, Srinagar received serious injuries on his head.
It was only after the two professors travelling in the car cried for help that a local drove the vehicle to District Hospital Shopian along with the injured driver.
Sources said Professor Arif (Dean Colleges) and Professor Mujtaba escaped unhurt.
Hospital sources told Kashmir Life that the driver has received injuries on his head and he was stable.
Shopian witnessed stone pelting incidents at many places throughout the day and major shops and business establishments remained closed against the Chief Minister’s visit to the district.
Pertinently, Chief Minister visited Ram Nagri and Reshenagri areas of the district on Tuesday.
