Drabu Inspects work on Highway Tunnel, Reviews Lower Munda Toll Plaza Work

Minister for Finance, Labour Employment and Culture, Dr Haseeb A Drabu Wednesday inspected the pace of work on the tunnel being constructed as a part of the four-lanning of Srinagar- Jammu National highway (NH-1).

The Minister travelled by train from Srinagar to Banihal and was accompanied by Commissioner Secretary, Finance Naveen A Choudhary, Commissioner Excise, Commissioner Commercial Taxes and other senior officers, an official statement said this evening.

Dr Drabu directed the officers to speed up the pace of work on the tunnel so that the prestigious project of highway widening is completed within the stipulated time-period for the general convenience of the commuters plying on this busy highway.

While interacting with the people getting displaced on account of acquisition of their properties, the Minister assured them that the Government will ensure that they are adequately rehabilitated.

The Minister later inspected the Toll plaza at Lower Munda, Qazigund and directed the officers to ensure that the toll collection is done in such a manner that the pilferage, if any is checked. He also inspected the site for undertaking the construction of the new toll plaza complex being constructed in synchronization with the four lanning of the highway.

The Minister said the new Toll Plaza would be having all the modern facilities and gadgets like scanners and would be synchronized with the portal of NH-1 so that the possibility of pilferage is checked. He also added that the vehicles passing through this Toll Plaza would be scanned in order to check any unlawful activities.

Dr Drabu also directed the officers to explore the possibility of outsourcing the Toll Plaza so that more revenue generation is ensured.

While interacting with the shopkeepers at Qazigund and Lower Munda, whose structures would be acquired on account of the widening of the highway, the Minister assured them that the Government will ensure they are adequately rehabilitated.
