The Deputy Chief Minister, Dr Nirmal Singh Thursday said that the Government would provide every support to the tourism industry so that the State comes up as an international tourist destination.
The Deputy Chief Minister was speaking at the 1st Global Conclave organized by the Progress Harmony Development (PHD) chamber in collaboration with Jammu and Kashmir Tourism Department at SKICC here.
Ambassador Embassy of Ukraine, 1st Counsellor and Deputy Chief of Mission Embassy of Greece, Deputy Head of Embassy of Spain, Minister Counsellor High Commission of Sri Lanka, senior officers of different States also attended the conclave.
While highlighting the role of tourism in elevating economy, the Deputy Chief Minister said that every possible help would be provided to the tourism and allied industries. “The Government is keen to promote tourism and related activities in the State as they have a major role in promoting the State within the country and outside and also dispel the wrong notions being created about this beautiful place”, he added.
Dr Singh said besides normal tourist related activities, the State has huge potential of pilgrimage tourism and the need of the hour is to promote the same. He said that the State is unique in having three regions of varied topography and climate, which is not there in other tourist destinations and onus for promoting the same lies on the Tourism department as well as the people associated with the trade.
The Minister for Finance, Labour and Employment, Dr Haseeb A Drabu, while calling for adopting a well-planned strategy for promotion of tourism said that our quality of services must be of global standards. He also called for receiving the requisite feedback from all the tourist players so that better mechanism viz a viz various incentives and measures needed for tourism promotion can be put in place.
The Minister for Industries and Commerce, Chander Parkash Ganga also assured necessary assistance to the tourism industry and the people associated with it.
