SRINAGAR
The wives of Pakistan administered Kashmir (PaK) returnee militants staged protest in Srinagar on Tuesday against the state government’s ‘fake promise’ in the name of rehabilitation policy.
“We are suffering in a big way,” said Zeba, one of the protesting women. “We didn’t visit the Valley on our own; we were rather called here and were promised dignified life. But till this day, nothing has been done for us.”
The women protestors alleged that the state government played a big political ‘hoax’ with them in the name of rehabilitation policy. “Our travel documents have been put on hold. We are being denied a meeting with our parents,” said Ruqaya, a wife of PaK returned militant from Shopian. Apart from travel documents, she said her kids are being denied school admission and her husband, a dignified source of livelihood.
Recently wife of a PaK returnee militant set herself on fire owing to ‘miserable life’. “And we are going to set ourselves on fire too, if Indian government failed to come deliver what they promised to us.”
Pitching anti-Indian slogans, the wives of PaK returnees came to Srinagar’s Press Enclave to press for their demands along with their kids and husbands.
“We are made to live a hellish life,” said Zainab, another women protestor. “Omar Abdullah played a dirty politics by calling us here. He used and trashed us like we are non-existent. Now, it is between us and Indian government. We want central government to deliver the pending promises or we will soon end our lives along with our kids.”
