PDP appeals EC to take action against NC

KL Report

SRINAGAR

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Friday appealed alleged that Election Commission of India (ECI) has failed to take action against ruling National Conference for what it called “repeated violations of the Model Code of Conduct by its president Dr Farooq Abdullah.”

Mehbooba alleged that National Conference will do everything that it can to avoid defeat in the elections but it is a test of “credibility” for the Election Commission.

PDP President Mehbooba Mufti while addressing a hurriedly convened press conference alleged EC of being dead about Jammu and Kashmir.

“EC has been alert to violations of model code of conduct in rest of the country, it seems to be dead when it comes to Jammu and Kashmir,” Mehbooba said.

Referring to NC President Farooq Abdullah’s statement about PDP leaders, Mehbooba said, “We hope that the EC will take action in this case as it did in the cases of (SP leader) Azam Khan and (BJP leader) Amit Shah (for making inflammatory speeches),” she said, “adding, “We have written to commission about Wazwan (traditional Kashmiri cuisine) being transported to NC headquarters in police vehicles, and we also complained about the inflammatory statements of NC president Farooq Abdullah in which he had alleged that PDP has nexus with Hizbul Mujahideen militant outfit. However, no action has been taken so far.”

The PDP president said if the EC does not take any action on the “inflammatory statements made by Abdullah, it would tantamount to hanging democracy in Kashmir”.
