SRINAGAR: The Delhi Police Special Cell Thursday arrested a 32-year-old Hizbul Mujahideen militant who was evading arrest for the last 13 years.
Javaid Ahmed Mattoo, from North Kashmir’s Sopore area, was nabbed from Delhi’s Nizamuddin area, media reports said. He is believed to be behind several attacks on security forces and police personnel in Kashmir since 2010.
Reports suggest that Mattoo is named in “11 known terror attack cases”, including five grenade attacks and killing of at least five police personnel in sperate incidents, in Jammu and Kashmir.
The accused classified as an A++ category militant was carrying a reward of Rs 10 Lakh. He is currently being questioned by Delhi Police.
Matto had initially been associated with Hizb-ul-Mujahideen (HM) but later joined Al-Badr, operating in Jammu and Kashmir.
The Delhi Police disclosed that they recovered a significant cache of arms and ammunition from Matto, including a 9 mm Star pistol with six live cartridges, an extra magazine, and a stolen car from Mattoo.
A case has been registered at the Special Cell police station, and investigations are currently underway.
