SRINAGAR: In a significant development, the Jammu and Kashmir Police announced on Friday that they have successfully recovered Rs 31.65 lacs from a self-styled journalist involved in a terror funding case linked to the notorious group, Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), in the Srinagar district.
A police spokesperson revealed that this action was part of the ongoing investigation of FIR No 20/23, which falls under sections 120B, 121, and 121A of the Indian Penal Code, along with sections 13, 18, 39, and 40 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (ULAP). The recovery of the substantial amount was accomplished during the investigation.
Subsequently, the authorities made another arrest in connection with the case. The accused has been identified as Muzamil Zahoor, son of Zahoor Ahmad Malik, residing in Indergam Pattan. Notably, he was operating as a self-styled journalist.
According to the police spokesman, Muzamil Zahoor had orchestrated a deceitful scheme by creating a fake bank account using forged identity documents. This account served as a conduit for carrying out transactions related to the banned LeT outfit’s activities. He further disclosed that the accused had been receiving funds in lakhs, which were intended for carrying out terror activities, from the main hawala operator of the LeT.
During the arrest of Muzamil Zahoor, the police seized incriminating materials that are crucial to the investigation. As a result, he has been placed in seven days of Police remand for custodial examination.
This case has already led to the arrest of five other individuals, namely Umar Ddil Dar, son of Gh Hassan Dar, residing in Soiteng; Salik Mehraj, son of Mehraj din Dar, residing in Soiteng; Bilal Ahmad Siddiqi, son of Ghulam Ahmad Siddiqi, residing in Kursoo Rajbagh; Zamrooda Habib, daughter of Habibullah Bhat, residing in Sanatnagr Srinagar; and Yasmeen Raja, daughter of Gh Nabi Bhat, residing in Tulbagh Pampore.
The police authorities are continuing their efforts to dismantle the network involved in terror funding and are committed to ensuring the safety and security of the region and its residents.
