Restrictions on Geelani’s congregational prayers continue; Hurriyat (g) aghast

Srinagar: Government on Friday once again stopped Hurriyat Conference chairman Syed Ali Geelani from offering Friday prayers and the same has drawn a strong condemnation from the amalgam.

In a statement issued on Friday, a spokesperson of Hurriyat said, “Stopping pro-freedom leaders from performing their religious responsibilities is gross violation of human rights and interference in the personnel and religious rights. The authorities have virtually turned state into a prison & basic rights are denied and trampled upon by authorities.”

While criticising state authorities for their egoistic approach, the spokesperson said that it seems they have decided to detain Syed Ali Geelani for whole life; however they are yet to produce any written order in this regard.

Hurriyat while referring to court procedure said that they challenged the illegal detention of its chairman and court in its verdict termed it illogical and unjustified.

“Police administration is not honouring court ruling and hence 87-year-old Syed Ali Geelani continues to be under house arrest since 2010,” said the statement.
