Srinagar: Soon after the congressional Friday prayers culminated, clashes erupted between forces and civilian protesters in parts of Srinagar and northern Kashmir town, Sopore.
After prayers at Jamia Masjid Srinagar in the downtown area of the city clashes broke after civilian protesters chanting election boycott slogans tried to come out on main road.
Police tried to restrict them within the lawns of Jamia Masjid triggering clashes. Amid pro-freedom slogans youth clashed with forces by throwing stones and forces fired teargas shells to disperse them.
Clashes were also reported in Soura area of the city.
Reports said that 2 youths sustained injuries during fierce clashes that erupted between protesters and forces at main market Soura, Srinagar after Friday prayers.
One youth sustained serious injuries when a stun grenade exploded in his hand that he tried to throw back towards forces.
His thumb fell apart and was rushed to SKIMS Soura, for treatment, reports said.
Meanwhile, in the northern town of Kashmir’s Baramulla, hundreds of protesters assembled outside historic Jamia Masjid Sopore after Friday prayers.
Protesters raising massive pro-freedom and anti-India slogans started marching towards main chock Sopore, reports said.
Forces already deployed at main chowk stopped the protesters from proceeding ahead which resulted in massive clashes, reports said.
Government forces used teargas shells, sound grenades and stun grenades too to control the protestors.
