Pulwama, Shopian shut to mourn militant killings

Srinagar: A complete shutdown is being observed in Pulwama and Shopian towns of south Kashmir on Monday to mourn the killings of two militants, reports said.

Two Hizb ul Mujahideen militants identified as Rayees Ahmad and Farooq Ahmed Hurrah were killed in a brief shootout with government forces near Padgampora, Awantipora on Sunday.

Shutdown: Pulwama Chowk on Sunday.

All the shops, business establishments, other offices and petrol pumps are closed in all the major and small townships of Pulwama including, Pulwama, Tral, Kakpora, Awantipora, Padgampora, Newa and Ratnipora. A complete shutdown is also observed in Shopian and its adjoining areas, local sources said.

Meanwhile thousands of people have gathered in the native villages of two slain militants to attend their funeral prayers, they added.
