Violent clashes followed the Friday prayers in the old city and police used tear smoke shells to disperse the protesters. Violent clashes were going on when the reports last came in.
Reports said that just after people came out from Mosques thousands of them gathered in Nowhatta Chowk and raised anti-Israel slogans.
Mirwaiz Umar Farooq later addressed the protesters amidst severe sloganeering.
As the Mirwaiz finished his fiery speech the protesters started marching and when they spotted police and Para military CRPF they started pelting stones on them.
Local sources said that soon clashes started at Nowhatta which later spread to Boharikadel, Gojwara, Sarafkadel, Rajourikadel areas.
They said that heavy stone pelting was responded by tear smoke shells when the reports last came in.
