Protesters set two police vehicles on fire in Tral

Violent protesters set on fire two police vehicles and pelted stones on police after a non-local militant was killed in an encounter with forces in Tral on Saturday, police said.


“After the death of a foreign militant in an encounter at Aripal-Patsuna Tral today some miscreants pelted stones on police,” a police statement said. He added “The miscreants set on fire two police vehicles.”


“Police exercised maximum restraint,” the police statement said.


Police said that a joint operation was launched by police and army on specific information at village Aaripal of Tral. The militants trapped in a house fired upon the joint team injuring one army man. The fire was retaliated. Police Awantipora, Police Budgam, 42-RR, 185 Bn CRPF and 35-RR were part of the operation.


Sources said that a militant sustained injuries but managed to escape while two soldiers were also injured in the exchange of firing.


They added when the forces conducted searches in the nearby forest area, the injured militant was found succumbed to injuries. One AK-47 rifle, 60 rounds and 3 magazines were recovered from his possession. “The killed militant has been identified as Adil Pathan of Pakistan,” sources said.


There were massive protests in the area following this incident resulting in the burning of two police vehicles, even as forces resorted to aerial firing and tear gas shelling to control the angry demonstrators.
