Police Wednesday arrested three eve-teasers after hundreds of male and female students along with their parents staged a massive protest against the trio who according to a girl student tried to molest her chastity at a solitary place near Thinma area of Kreeri Pattan in North Kashmir’s Baramulla District.
An 11th class female student of Higher Secondary School Kreeri Pattan (name withheld) told CNS that three debauches came down from their vehicle near Thinma area when she was on way to her home. “They not only misbehaved with me but tried to molest my chastity. I somehow managed to save myself from those corrupted youth,” she said adding that soon after reaching home, she narrated everything to her parents.
Reports said that as the news about this indecent incident spread, hundreds of male and female students from Higher Secondary School Kreeri came on roads and demanded immediate arrest of the accused. Earlier, the girl students had lodged a formal complaint in police station Kreeri.
Eyewitnesses said that agitated protestors tried to attack the house of one of the molester, an attempt foiled by police. The protestors also pelted stones on the police post Kreeri demanding the immediate arrest of all the three accused.
SDPO, Pattan, Syed Fayaz Ahmed said that protestors damaged the window panes of police station and also blocked Srinagar-Baramullah road. “We exercised maximum restraint and only bursted few tear-smoke shells to disperse the mob,” he said.
He further said that police have arrested all the three accused and registered a case vide FIR number 41 under section 294,506 RPC and started an investigation in this regard. He identified the accused trio as Adnan Nazir Bukhari son of Nazir Bukhari, Shiekh Shahnawaz son of Ghulam Hassan and Abdul Wahid Bukhari son of Bashir Bukhari all resident of Kreeri. Police have also seized the vehicle used by the accused.
Meanwhile, shops and business establishments remained closed in Kreeri against the incident. The local demanded stern punishment for the accused who according to them are known drug addicts.
