Home Minister calls CM, reviews Baltal situation

The Union Home Minister, Rajnath Singh Friday in a telephonic conversation with the Chief Minister of Jammu & Kashmir, Omar Abdullah, discussed the reports of clashes in Baltal area en route Amarnath Yatra.


According to a government press release Omar appraised Rajnath Singh about the situation and informed that the state government has sent officials to the spot for necessary action.


“Rajnath Singh asked Omar Abdullah to take all necessary steps to control the situation in the Baltal area,” the statement said.


Meanwhile, 110 tents and 4 Langers were set ablaze and 28 people got injured when clashes broke out between two groups in Baltal base camp of Amarnath Yatra. Sources said that 70 LPG Cylinders also got blasted due to fire. Police also arrested 4 people including 2 CRPF men.


According to sources the situation took an ugly turn when the owners of Langer no 9 namely Rahul and Rohit allegedly took the guests of a tent owner namely Anwar Khan.


They said that when Anwar went to ask Rahul and Rohit about his guests they allegedly stabbed him.


After shifting Anwar to SKIMS other tent owners raised their voice which resulted in a scuffle between the tent and Langer owners resulting in injuries to many. CRPF men who were on the Yatra duty swung into action and used force allegedly selectively against the protesting tent owners. Sources said 28 people in all were injured due to scuffle and CRPF action.


Sources said that IG Kashmir Abdul Gani Mir has reached the spot and he was monitoring the situation himself.


They added that two CRPF constables, Pawan and Sushil have been arrested besides the two Langer owners, Rahul and Rohit.
