Congress strong enough to defeat divisive forces: Azad

Congress on Saturday held an extraordinary meeting of Senior Party leaders of various assembly segments of Kashmir in Srinagar to deliberate over the organizational affairs and activities in Kashmir.

The party spokesman in a statement said that senior Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Gulam Nabi Azad presided over the meeting.

He said that apart from other things, LOP Gulam Nabi Azad reviewed the organizational affairs and activities in Kashmir province emphasizing the Party men to gear up for the challenges.

He added that the J&K Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) President G.A. Mir also addressed the meeting, emphasizing the leaders and workers to invigorate the Party from the grassroots level in their respective constituencies.

The spokesman said that both the leaders Gulam Nabi Azad and Ghulam Ahamd Mir also expressed serious concern over the difficulties confronting people in all the three regions, describing the absence of elected govt as a major source of disillusionment for the masses in JK.

“Many important issues of public importance also came under discussion,” he said.

“LOP Gulam Nabi Azad asked the Party cadres to reach out to people to ensure redressal of their grievances,” he added.

“Congress Party feels highly concerned about the wellbeing of the people in the country and State, shall do its utmost to address their genuine concerns both in the Parliament and outside.

He said Congress Party is only unifying force in the Country, State, saying that Party is capable enough to defeat the divisive and communal forces in the Country, Azad added

Taking the opportunity of the meeting, Gulam Nabi Azad assured the people that Congress will remain committed to safeguard the secular fabric, unity and harmony in the country, besides it(Congress) will ensure the defeat of communal and fascist forces, which are hell-bent upon to divide people on the basis of caste or religion.

The meeting also held threadbare discussions with regard to overall socio-political scenario obtaining in the State and devised a strategy to counter the falsehood and political exploitation by BJP and other opportunist parties.

The meeting also resolved to start public outreach programme across the State, shortly.

The meeting was attended by Senior Congress Leaders, Ex Ministers, Ex Legislators and other prominent leaders of the Party, said the spokesman.
