Cannabis crop destroyed in upper reaches of Lolab

Forest Department has swung into action and in a massive offensive has freed more than 400 Kanals of forest land from illegal cultivation of cannabis (Bhang, Charas) in the upper reaches of Lolab belt in Kupwara.

As per reports, drug mafia had encroached hundreds of kanals of forest land in this region to undertake cultivation of this banned crop. Conservator of Forests, North Circle, Irfan Rasool constituted a team of officers to conduct an anti-bhang operation in view of reports of its cultivation taking place in the said region.

As per the official statement, cannabis was destroyed at Trimukh top in pockets such as Bumus, Dab, Kakarpati etc and around 400 Kanals of forest land was freed from bhang cultivation in a joint operation in which more than 200 officials of Forest department, Forest Protection Force and Police participated.
