Srinagar: Octogenarian Hurriyat patriarch Syed Ali Geelani continuous to remain house detention for the 337th week & his continued house detention has taken a heavy toll on his health, Ayaz Akbar, Hurriyat Conference (g) spokesperson said in a statement on Friday.

He said that a less physical activity due to confinement to house has lead to health complications. “His residence is under continuous surveillance as CCTV’s are mounted on several points near his residence.”

He condemned the state authorities and said that it is illegal and unconstitutional to confine him to four walls.

Meanwhile, a spokesperson of Hurriyat Conference (g) while talking to Kashmir Life warned that if anything untoward happens to Geelani due to continued house detention the responsibility thereof would lie on the government.

“Geelani Sahib despite being unwell continues to remain under the house detention and the authorities have increased the vigil and deployment of the forces outside his Hyderpora residence here,” the Hurriyat spokesman Ayaz Akbar said in a statement.

“The main reason of the ill health of Geelani is his continuous house detention which is taking heavy toll on his health,” the spokesman said.
