Police identifies slain militants as Shahbaz Wani and Farooq Hurrah

Srinagar: Police identified the two slain militants killed in a brief shootout at Padgampora Awantipora in South Kashmir as Shahbaz Shafi Wani alias Rayees Kachroo son of Mohammad Shafi resident of Beloo Rajpora Pulwama and Farooq Ahmad Hurrah son of Ghulam Ahmad Hurrah resident of Naizneenpora Shopian. Both of them belonged to Hizb ul Mujahideen, IGP Kashmir SJM Gilani said in a press conference at Awantipora.

Gilani claimed that the slain militants were among the top cadre of HM.

Addressing a press conference Gillani said that a police party was on way from Pulwama to Awantipora when a group of militants boarding a Maruti car bearing registration number JK13A-0764 fired upon police party near Padgampora which was retaliated.

He said that during the exchange of fire, two militants terrorists were killed. The dead bodies have been handed over to the legal heirs for last rites, he confirmed.

Police rrom the spot has recovered 01 AK rifle, 01 SLR, 01 AK magazine, 02 SLR Magazines, 02 pouches and a grenade was recovered from the spot.

Pertinent to mention here that the recovered SLR, Police claims is the same which was “looted on 8th of October 2016 from Tumhal minority picket in Pulwama.”
