Jammu and Kashmir: Lal Singh Sent to 14-Day Judical Custody

SRINAGAR: A Special designated Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Court on Saturday sent former Minister and Dogra Swabhiman Sangathan Party (DSSP) supremo Lal Singh to a 14-day judicial remand till December 1 to Jammu district jail at Amphalla in a money laundering case, media reports said.

DSSP leader was produced before the court through video conferencing by Investigating Officer who sought a 14-day judicial remand for the former minister.

Special judge, anti-corruption (CBI cases) Jammu justice Bala Jyoti observed, “the investigation is ongoing and accused is involved in a serious and non-bailable offence. As such, accused is remanded to judicial custody.”

“Accused person shall be subjected to regular medical checkup under rules. He has been apprised of his right to engage an Advocate to defend him. Accused shall be produced in the court by the IO after expiry of the period of judicial remand”, the court said.

The court directed the superintendent of the district jail in Amphalla to provide basic amenities to the accused in line with the jail manual.

Singh had been the subject of an inquiry related to the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) concerning an educational trust operated by his wife, former legislator Kanta Andotra.
