SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has lodged an FIR against an official of the J&K Sports Council on corruption charges.
According to the FIR, the case has been filed against Bilquees Mir, the Director of Water Sports, for not meeting the recruitment conditions.
Recently appointed as a judge at the Asian Games, she is now under the ACB’s scrutiny, with a formal FIR registered against her on November 10.
Initially appointed as a physical education teacher with a relaxation of technical qualifications required for recruitment, she was directed to undergo BPED training at the Government College of Physical Education during the probation period.
“Verification was only conducted after an RTI was filed to ascertain her suitability for the current position, revealing that she failed to meet the requirements and conditions outlined in the appointment order,” stated an official.
As per the FIR, the Sports Council in Srinagar promoted her despite the lack of qualification. “It further surfaced during the course of verification that officers of the Sports Council, in criminal conspiracy with each other, bestowed undue benefits upon her, thereby causing a corresponding loss to the government exchequer.” (KNS)
