SRINAGAR: A group of candidates have alleged discrimination at the hands of the Jammu and Kashmir administration with regard to the recruitment of teachers for district wise recruitment of teachers.
Offering details, the aspirants said that Jammu and Kashmir Services Selection Board (JKSSB) has advertised posts for district wise recruitment of General, Science/Math and Urdu teachers on December 28, 2017, vide Notification number 6 of 2017 for 2154 posts.
The exam was held in 2018 in different shifts, and the result was declared in March 2019 and selection lists were subsequently intimated to the Education Department. One of the aspirants said that the selection list and the waiting list have a validity of just one year.
“The list expired in March 2020. The delay was caused by the non-functioning of the departments in the aftermath of abrogation of Article 370,” he said. “Due to the situation in the erstwhile state post-August 2019 when departments were not able to function properly, many vacancies were left unfilled and the validity of the list expired. Subsequently, no appointment orders were issued against vacancies that had accrued.”
He said the validity was due to expire on March 7, but JKSSB requested the General Administration Department (GAD) for an extension of the date on March 6, by six months.
Subsequently, the case was taken up with GAD, which in turn asked the Education Department to furnish the details about the exact number of vacancies against which candidates from the waiting list could be appointed.
“Two lists were sent to GAD, one consisting of 48 vacancies/candidates from Kashmir division (district wise), and another consisting of some 13 candidates from Jammu division (Samba and Udhampur were the only two districts from Jammu which had pending vacancies at the time),” the aspirants said.
They further said that while the extension for the Kashmir division was not given, it was however granted in favour of the Samba and Udhampur districts in the Jammu division.
“During this time, they neither rejected our file nor have they granted us revalidation but instead repeatedly shuttled the file between the Education Department and the GAD,” the candidates alleged.
“Now they are telling us that the Chief Secretary does not entertain these cases. The question we want to ask is, how can their decision be so arbitrary: granting revalidation to two districts of Jammu while the districts of Kashmir are being denied the same. We took examination under the same notification, lost validity on the same date for same reasons, yet this discrimination,” they alleged.
They have demanded that the administration approve their files at the earliest.
