SRINAGAR: Three cases of the newly detected Omicron Covid variant have been detected in Jammu after the variant was confirmed following genome sequencing. The detection adds to the vulnerability of the population that has somehow managed to fight the Covid19 second wave at huge costs.
The government said the variant was detected in samples taken on November 30, almost three weeks back. This essentially means the omicron might have taken off in Jammu. However, Jammu has only 332 Covid19 active cases, right now, which is two times less than Kashmir.
Jammu and Kashmir has lost 4514 people to the pandemic so far. These include 2319 in Kashmir and 2195 in Jammu. There are 1327 active cases in Jammu and Kashmir, of whom 995 are in Kashmir alone.
Three Omicron cases confirmed by NCDC, Delhi from a cluster in Jammu. Sample taken on 30th November. RTPCR testing of entire locality ordered.

Omicron variant has already started closing the societies with most of the Western countries permitted only skeletel air services. The variant is reported to have a faster spread, which puts lot of load on the health infrastructure.
Meanwhile, the Government today informed that 104 new positive cases of novel Coronavirus (COVID-19), 26 from the Jammu division and 78 from the Kashmir division, have been reported today, thus taking the total number of positive cases in Jammu and Kashmir to 340036. Also, 1 COVID death has been reported from Jammu Division.
Moreover, 139 more COVID-19 patients have recovered and been discharged from various hospitals including 29 from Jammu Division and 110 from Kashmir Division. The Bulletin informs that no new case of Mucormycosis has been reported today, thus the total number of confirmed cases remains 50 across J&K.
On COVID vaccination, the bulletin informs that 64,343doses of COVID vaccine have been administered in the last 24 hours bringing the cumulative number of doses administered across J&K to1,77,22,318.
According to the daily Media Bulletin on novel Coronavirus (Covid-19), out of 340036 positive cases, 1327are Active Positive (332 in Jammu Division and 995in Kashmir Division), 334195 have recovered and 4514 have died; 2195 in Jammu division and 2319 in Kashmir division.
The Bulletin further said that out of 18750922 test results available, 340036 samples have tested positive and 18410886 samples have been tested as negative to date. Besides, 46,173 COVID tests have been conducted in the last 24 hours.
To date, 5029751 persons have been enlisted for observation which included 7918persons in-home quarantine including facilities operated by the government, 1327 in isolation and 431585 in-home surveillance. Besides, 4584407 persons have completed their surveillance period.
Providing district-wise breakup for positive cases reported today, the Bulletin said that Srinagar reported 40 cases, Baramulla reported 04 cases, Budgam reported no cases, Pulwama reported 02 cases, Kupwara reported 15 cases, Anantnag reported 03 cases, Bandipora reported 04 cases, Ganderbal reported 09 cases, Kulgam reported 01 case while as Shopian reported no fresh cases for today.
Similarly, Jammu reported 18cases, Udhampur reported no case, Rajouri reported 03 cases, Doda reported 03 cases, Kathua reported 01case, Samba reported no case, Poonch reported no cases, Kishtwar reported 01 case while as Ramban and Reasi reported no fresh cases for today.
