For the sixth Friday in a row, Govt disallows Friday prayers in Kashmir’s grand Mosque

Srinagar

All gates leading to the historic Jamia Masjid were yet again pad locked by government forces while all roads leading to the mosque were blocked with concertina wires.

This is for the sixth consecutive Friday today that government disallowed the congregational Friday prayers in the grand mosque of Kashmir.

Early in the morning today, police vans, residents said, on public address systems announced Curfew in parts of Downtown to prevent people from assembling at the mosque.

Hurriyat (m) chairperson Mirwaiz Umar Farooq who is also Kashmir’s head priest and addresses the people every Friday continues to remain under house detention.

Pertinently, Joint Resistance Leadership has called for “peaceful protests” after prayers today against the ruling of a military court in Machil fake encounter case and “persecution” of resistance groups by the government.
