Urs Hazrat Baba Dawood Khaki (RA) Observed In Srinagar

The annual Urs of Hazrat Sheikh Baba Dawood Khaki (RA) was observed in Srinagar Friday with religious fervour and enthusiasm. The main function in this regard was held at Makhdoom Sahib Shrine.

The Sheikh was engaged in the royal services, which he later gave up services and became a disciple of Sheikh Hamza Makhdoom (RA), an official spokesperson said this evening.

He was a prolific writer and to his credit has many works of repute including Virdul Murideen, Dastoorul Salikeen, Qasida Jalalia, Qasida Lamhiya. Virdul Murideen, still recited in the Shrines and Mosques of Kashmir is a compilation of 1362 verses in honour (manaqib) of his spiritual preceptor Hazrat Mehboob-ul-Alam Sheikh Hamza Makdoom (RA).

Sheikh Dawood Khaki (RA) is also popularly remembered as Imam Azam-i-Sani in Kashmir.

He travelled far and wide in the valley, relieving people of evils and myths. He became instrumental in guiding thousands to the stages of spiritual domain and had huge number of followers. He breathed his last on 3rd Safar 994 Hijri (1585 AD).

Besides, Sheikh Baba Dawood Khaki (RA), Urs of Sheikh Naseer-u-Deen Suharwady (RA) was also observed with enthusiasm today at Saida Kadal.

Scores of devotees including women and children, paid obeisance and offered special prayers at these shrines, where religious scholars highlighted contributions of these mystic saints and threw light on different aspects of their life.
