A district leader of Syed Ali Geelani led Tehreek-e-Hurriyat (TeH) was arrested by J&K police on Saturday evening.

Local sources from North Kashmir’s Bandipora district said that Rayees Ahmad Mir, who heads TeH in the district, was arrested by police in Patushai area.

Patushai is village located on right bank of Bandipora-Sopore road. Degree College Bandipora is located in the same village over a small hill while a major electricity grid too is under construction.

“Rayees Mir was arrested this evening,” a local citizen of Bandipora said.

Reports added that 12 cases have been registered against Mir in police station Bandipora.

Meanwhile, reports coming from central Kashmir’s Ganderbal said that J&K police cops raided Kurhama village early this evening evoking widespread protests.

“Police came and raided home of a youth,” a local said, “soon the news spread and people came out on roads.”

The local informed that protests erupted and forces used pellets and tear gas shells.

“Three youths sustained minor injuries who were treated locally,” the local said.

He added that the police damaged private property in the area.

In summer capital, police fired tear gas shells inside a Jamia Masjid in Dalgate area around 9:30 PM, locals said.

“After we finished Isha Namaz,” a local told Kashmir Life over phone, “we started pro-freedom sloganeering from the Masjid loudspeaker.”

He added that soon police came and fired tear gas canisters inside the Masjid. “It created suffocation and people came out from their homes in protest against the action of police.”

He added that police lobbed several tear gas canisters inside the lanes near Dalgate bridge but people persisted with protests.
