Hundreds of vehicles on way to Srinagar have been stopped on the other side of Jawahar Tunnel on Sunday morning.

Kashmir Life received a number of calls from travellers to Kashmir detailing the situation the closure of vital highway has created.

The highway has been closed given the situation in Kashmir following the killing of a youth, Basit Ahmad Ahanger, on Saturday evening.

“I left Jammu at 6 AM today but our vehicle stopped near Shaitaan Nallah as CRPF has closed down the tunnel,” a traveller from Jammu told Kashmir Life over phone at 9 PM.

He said that hundreds of vehicles are stuck and passengers are facing huge problems.

“There is a three-lane traffic jam from Jawahar Tunnel to Ramsoo,” he said, “then there is no facility at all.”

He said that the passengers include women and children as well.

“We ate nothing since morning as it is mountain one side and a deep Nallah on the other side,” he said, “children and women are worst sufferers.”

He said on confirming from the traffic police cops “it came to fore that para-military CRPF has closed Tunnel”. “Traffic police seemed helpless,” he said, “they said that they can’t do anything as CRPF has taken over the Jawahar Tunnel.”
