Terming the ban on publication of English daily Kashmir Reader as worst form of “political vendetta”, the Kashmir Economic Alliance Chairperson Muhammad Yasin Khan on Monday said the government was “crossing all limits of oppression to muzzle” the people of Kashmir.
“The government plan is now clear that it doesn’t want the just voice of the people of Kashmir be conveyed to the outside world but that the PDP-BJP alliance seems to believing in journalism of appeasement,” Khan who also heads the Kashmir Traders and Manufacturers Federation said in a statement this evening.
“Modern history doesn’t find any evidence where newspaper has been banned, it seems to be another first in the kitty of PDP led government, which has pushed Kashmir to worst ever humanitarian crises,” he said.
He added that the ban on publication also means snatching livelihood of the people who were “working for the benefit” of the entire nation.
Seeking in the intervention of the world media, Khan appealed the journalists of Jammu and Kashmir to “be united” in this hour of crises.
“It has started with ban on one newspaper, it may end with closure of all Kashmir based media houses which represent the voice of the people of Kashmir,” he said.
Khan expressed sympathies with the Kashmir Reader family and assured of all possible support in getting the publication restored.
