In an interesting political development ahead of the assembly polls Er Rashid, Ghulam Hassan Mir, Yousuf Tarigami and Hakim Yasin Saturday held a meeting and decided to “coordinate their activities in order to provide enough opportunity for the people of the state to intervene in the ongoing political process effectively.”
Rashid, Mir, Tarigami and Hakim head their own parties and are contesting the upcoming polls from Langate, Gulmarg, Kulgam and Khansahab assembly segments respectively.
Mir was in a big controversy early this year after the former army chief and now a BJP leader retired General VK Singh alleged all the J&K lawmakers have been receiving funds from the Indian army ever since 1947. Mir was reported to have received sums from army to topple Omar government during 2010 Kashmir uprising. Rashid was among the leading lawmakers to come openly against Mir. He more than twice demanded Mir to resign from the legislative assembly.
According to a statement of state secretary CPI (M), Yousuf Tarigami a meeting was held today at Srinagar which was attended by Ghulam Hassan Mir, President DPN, Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen, President PDF, Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami, State Secretary CPI(M) and Engineer Abdul Rashid, President AIP.
“The present political scenario was discussed in detail. The State Assembly Elections, process for which has already been initiated was also debated threadbare,” the statement said.
According to the statement, “the necessary was felt of coordinating their activities in order to provide enough opportunity for the people of the state to intervene in the ongoing political process effectively so as to ensure emergence of a viable force for the well being of the people of the state.”
“Besides the participants felt the necessity of inviting all other like-minded groups/persons to come forward so as to strengthen the efforts for a better future of the state,” the statement said.
