Murder Of Lady: Family Accuses Police Of Inaction

KL Report

SRINAGAR

Accusing police of shielding culprits allegedly involved in the murder of an old lady, scores of family members from Sutharan village Monday staged a protest in Press Enclave Srinagar alleging that only 15 out of 31 accused in FIR have been arrested by police while rest are still roaming free.

“Our neighbouring Bhat family headed by Akbar Bhat, his issues and relatives supported by Sarpanch and Panch attacked us with axes and sharp edged weapons. They kicked and strangled our mother Zaina Begum to death,” Abdul Gani Sheikh told CNS adding that they are fearing for their lives as police is reluctant to arrest the main accused due to political affiliation of an accused with a particular political party.

“My father, Abdul Rahman Sheikh had gone to meet SP Budgam to enquire about the status of the case against the accused, but to his surprise, he was detained and lodged in police station Budgam. Police is doing all this to shield the accused who are influential,” Muzafar Ahmed said.

The protestors alleged that police is doing nothing to arrest the main accused whose names are mentioned in FIR.

When contacted a police official told CNS that they have already registered an FIR vide number 71/2014 under section 302,307,452,148,149,336,323,427 of RPC in this regard. “After initial inquiry we have arrested the Sarpanch Ghulam Muhammad Lone and Muhammad Amin Lone. More arrests are expected once inquiry will be completed,” he said adding that the feud between the Bhat and Sheikh Family was the outcome of unsuccessful matrimonial relationship. The police official denied that they have arrested any complainant.
