Minor Clash Between Two Muharram Mourner Groups In Khandah

KL Report

SRINAGAR

At least one Muharram mourner was injured when two groups clashed over the right to organize a Majlis in Khandah, near Chadoora, police spokesperson informed.

The injured has been shifted to hospital as the Majlis is going on.

A senior police officer termed the rumours baseless that a Shia cleric was injured. He said the two factions had been running a dispute over the right to organize the Majlis in Khandah and the dispute was evading a settlement for nearly six months now.

A group that was denied permission by the police to hold the Majlis in the evening on Saturday managed a gathering in the morning instead.

The other faction objected and within minutes the two factions were seen fighting each other. As the police appeared on the spot, it became the target of stone pelting. It was in this melee that one young man was reportedly injured.

“The situation is well under control,” the officer said. “There is nothing beyond this.” All the senior police and civil administration officers are on the spot. It includes SP Budgam as well.
