Former Kashmir Life intern becomes first Kashmiri journalist to head Google News team

Google News has appointed a former Kashmir Life intern, Irfan Rashid, as Team Head in its Gurgaon office.

Irfan Rashid, 24, has become a first and youngest Kashmiri journalist to head a team in Google News. He will be responsible for handling a team of News Curators.

Irfan completed his masters in convergent journalism from Central University of Kashmir in 2015. He started freelance writing for Kashmir Life in 2014 and later joined Rising Kashmir as a reporter in February 2015.

In January 2016, Irfan started a new journey in business journalism when he joined Deccan Chronicle’s business publication, Financial Chronicle, in Delhi as a reporter cum sub-editor.

Within 10 months, he got offer from HT Media’s business paper Mint as a sub-editor, where he worked till November 2017.

“This is a dream offer. I never thought within 2 years after university degree, I would head a team in Google News. I am thankful to my family and teachers who helped me in this journey,” said Irfan, who hails from Charari Sharief and did his schooling from Noorani Public School in the town.

He is likely to join the search engine giant on Monday, 27 November.
